SYFFAL's Review of Mike Coykendall's "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry' Video

I have a soft spot for roadside country blues.  Those longing tracks that you see you at a rest stop in west Texas with your head in your hands and more questions that you’ve got answers.  There may or may not be a destination.  It doesn’t matter.  Where did it all go wrong? Who cares, because you have your freedom.  I just came across Mike Coykendall and his cover of Hank Williams’ I’m so Lonely I could Cry and he perfectly captures that pre-prepackaged country drawl.  There a taste of Americana and the freedom it promises here.  It’s funny how everything you ever wanted never looks like you thought it would.

Sassparilla's 'All The Way In' Video featured in No Depression

Comment by Rick J Bowen yesterday

To support their latest full-length, Magpie, Portland, Oregon-based roots-pop act Sassparilla has made a video for “All The Way In,” the album’s first single. The Portland, Oregon-based Americana outfit Sassparilla delivers a collection of chameleon roots-pop on their latest, Magpie, which was released on October 23, 2012. A 9-track offering of songs that span the gamut of the AM dial glory days, the record was released by Portland, Oregon-based independent record label Fluff & Gravy Records. Sassparilla is Kevin Blackwell (vocals, lead guitar, national resonator guitar), the father and son combo of Ross Macdonald (harmonica) and Colin Macdonald (bass), Naima (vocals, accordion, washboard), Justin Burkhart (drums), and Ben Stewart (bass).

Long considered one of the most entertaining, sweaty live shows in the Pacific Northwest by fans and concertgoers, a Sassparilla live show consists of dancing, sing-along numbers, and plenty of good times.
