Jason McCue to tour West Coast

After a few self-released records that McCue recorded while attending college in Seattle, PANGAEA marks a milestone for him. Released on Portland’s Fluff and Gravy Records in the Spring of 2018, the record marks the end of his career as a Student, and the beginning of his focus on being a full-time musician. The transition actually began a year earlier, in March of 2017, when McCue competed in the Museum of Popular Culture’s Sound Off! competition for artists 21 and younger in the Pacific Northwest. Armed only with his dad’s acoustic guitar, a wispy tenor voice-box, and more than a few starkly provocative lyrics, Jason ended up impressing the competition’s judges, comprised of Seattle music industry veterans, enough to earn him first place. The prizes included a drum set, an electric guitar, a synthesizer, which he used to record PANGAEA, as well as performance slots at Bumbershoot and Timber Outdoor Music Festivals.

His September/October dates mark his first prolonged tour, and these will be the first of many more to come.

Fernando – Sept/Oct 2015 Tour Dates

W139-finalOn Sept 18, Fernando Viciconte will release his 7th solo album, titled Leave The Radio On (Fluff and Gravy Records).  Featuring Peter Buck (REM) on mandolin, and guitar, as well as Scott McCaughey (The Minus Five, The Baseball Project, The Young Fresh Fellows), the record stands to be Fernando’s finest to date.  The record has been highly anticipated since KEXP featured an early single from the record, “The Dogs”, as their Song of The Day back in October of 2014.

After a series of health problems that prevented him from touring for the better part of a decade, Fernando is finally healthy and eager to hit the road. “Most folks who tour at this level at the age of 46, they’re burnt out,” he says. “I have a new lease on life.”

Mike Coykendall to tour US Sept/Oct 2015

Coykendallwalls420x250On July 17, Mike Coykendall released his 4th solo record and 22nd overall, Half Past, Present Pending.  American Standard Time called it “a slice of seriously fuzzy, spaced-out folk music”, which seems a pretty accurate description. With this record, Mike had the idea to strip things down (mostly) to his live “rig”, which finds him playing an oversized Kay guitar, a tin can kick drum, and hi hat, all run through layers of distortion and delay. Of course, he took a few liberties in the studio, but the point remains that sounds on Half Past, Present Pending are pretty much what you’re going to get when you see a Mike Coykendall show.  If you’d like to see it for yourself, now’s your chance…

The Harmed BrothersSince releasing their acclaimed record, Better Days, in October of 2013, the Harmed Brothers have spent most of their days on the road, and that will continue for the foreseeable future. Nick Jaina returns for limited June engagements

There is so much going on with Nick Jaina that it is difficult to know where to start. For one thing, he is now residing in New Orleans, but more on that in a moment. After releasing last summer’s Primary Perception, the lead single, “Don’t Come To Me”, was picked up by NPR’s Heavy Rotation and Morning Edition, and he toured the West Coast (including a stint at Folsom Prison) and Midwest with a string ensemble.  But that was just the beginning. Since that time, Jaina has been busy as musical director and composer for the contemporary dance pieces “Emergence” and “Rituals” at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. After selling out two shows, the New York Times called his score “the most physically bracing part of the night”. Of late, he has  been  focusing his energies on a one-man theatrical set of music and storytelling called “The Hole in Coffin”, and will be spending the summer in New Orleans to bring it to the stage. It will be premiering at the Fringe Festival in November and at PUSH Festival in Vancouver, Canada in January (2015).  In addition, Nick has been hosting “The Story of Your Life” on X-RAY FM in Portland, which is a 30 minute weekly show combining new instrumental music with conversations with fascinating people. After its run on the radio it will continue on as a regular podcast.

With all of this, it is understandable that Jaina has only rarely been seen publicly performing his Indie Pop repertoire over the last several months. Word on the street is, however, is that we are all in for a treat, as Nick will be returning to the Northwest in June for a short run of performances, which will find him accompanied by trumpet, violin and drums. Here are the details, catch him while you can:

June 7, Sou’Wester, Seaview, WA
Tues Jun 10 at Red Light in Bellingham, WA
Wed Jun 11 at Fremont Abbey in Seattle, WA (with Stelth Ulvang, of The Lumineers)
Fri Jun 13 at Portland State University in Portland, OR
